Beer for Lent - "It's not like a joke."

A guy in Iowa is planning to only drink beer for Lent.  This sounds like me in college, except beer = vodka or gin, and Lent = all the time.  Anywho, this idea begs the question: Would it work with champagne?  How about mimosas?
